Thanksgiving Day gone to the dogs
On Thursday November 26,2009 we cooked a turkey with carrots, green beans, potatoes and sweet potatoe bisquits for the dogs. All the dogs couldn't wait for the dinner cart to go by and smell that aroma of turkey!
Best Friends Petcare accepting donations for angel tree
Every year Best Friends Petcare accepts donations for rescues on their angel tree. This year we picked 2 rescues Harlequin Have Great Dane Rescue and Warren County Humane. We ask the public to donate cash, toys, or just to goto the rescue and get a new friend for Christmas!
The rescues have asked that only the following toys be donated (for some of the dogs fight over them or we want to prevent blockage)

On Sunday night, CBS will air "A Dog Named Christmas," a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie about a yellow Labrador retriever who changes the life of a young man and his family.
In conjunction with the television premiere, Petfinder.com is holding a special "Foster a Lonely Pet for the Holidays" initiative, asking families across America to consider fostering a pet from a local shelter or rescue group for the holiday season, ideally from Christmas Eve until New Year's Day.
In the TV movie -- based on the novel "A Dog Named Christmas" by Greg Kincaid -- 20 year-old Todd (played by Noel Fisher) is a developmentally challenged young man with a habit of rescuing hurt squirrels and hawks found in the woods surrounding his family's farm. "Todd has his own way of looking at things," his father (played by Bruce Greenwood) says.
When Todd hears on the radio about a local "adopt a dog" program, he begs his father to let him get a dog for the holidays. Though his father is against the idea, he eventually relents. At the local animal shelter, there are many adorable dogs, but Todd makes a special connection with a Labrador retriever with a wise-looking mug. They take the dog home and name his Christmas.
But will Christmas go back to the pound after the holidays? "Our hope with this movie is to start a nationwide fostering program, and that many families who agree to 'foster' an animal for the holidays will decide to 'adopt' the animal for its lifetime," author Kincaid said in a statement.
"A Dog Named Christmas" airs on CBS this Sunday, November 29 from 9-11 p.m. ET/PT. To find out which shelters and rescue organizations in your area are participating in the "Foster a Lonely Pet for the Holidays" program, visit Petfinder.com.

They have a bit of a reputation for a vicious streak, but this dog certainly got more than it bargained for after pouncing on a baby squirrel it found on the ground.
Moments before the hapless baby would have been torn apart, these images show its mother appearing to leap off a nearby tree and attacking the surprised dog.
Barking mad: The squirrel gets ready to leap off the tree and its terrified baby is pounced on by the dog
Using its sharp teeth and claws, the squirrel tore into its canine opponent and distracted it so the baby could escape to freedom.
It is unclear if the images have been edited, but the startled dog appears in considerable pain as the squirrel bites into its flank.
The surprise assault gives the baby squirrel just enough time to climb back up the nearby tree before its mother is thrown clear and escapes from the dog.
The baby squirrel appears to have fallen to the ground as it was being helped up the tree.
Make it snappy: The plucky creature bites and claws the dog, allowing its baby to escape certain death

Spotting the helpless creature on the ground, the dog pounces and traps it underneath its front paws as it closes for the kill.
But it appears to have underestimated its diminutive opponent, as the brave mother squirrel clearly has no intention of letting her baby become dinner and rushes to its aid by jumping on the dog's head.
After the whirlwind attack the mother squirrel springs free of the dog and rushes her baby back up into the safety of the tree.
The frustrated dog is left sitting forlornly at the base of the tree as its prey escapes into the upper branches.
The images appeared on a website that was set up solely to promote them using Weebly, a website creation programme.

Titan the Great Dane Named World's Tallest Dog

Titan the Great Dane has something to really bark about – he's just been named the World's Tallest Dog by the Guinness World Records, reports Sign On San Diego.
At 42.25 inches tall, the 4-year-old dog from San Diego is deaf, epileptic and partly blind, Titan's proud owner Diana Taylor told Sign On San Diego.
Taylor adopted her 190-pound Great Dane in 2005 from a rescue group in Tennessee. "It's not just wonderful for Titan," she told Sign On San Diego. "It's wonderful for all dogs."
Titan replaced previous record-holder Gibson, a Great Dane from Northern California who died earlier this year after fighting bone cancer, the Associated Press reports. Gibson measured a little shorter than Titan, at 42.2 inches.
Taylor plans to throw a party for Titan to celebrate, complete with her dog's favorite treats, but it seems he has already started to rejoice: when Titan heard the news, the pooch slobbered all over his official Guinness certificate, Taylor told Sign On San Diego.

We have all heard of the H1N1 Virus or the dreaded "swine flu," and many of us have either been affected by it, or know someone who has. But how does it affect our pets? Can we give it to them?

It's just another love story. Girl meets boy, girl loves boy, girl leaves boy, girl loves boy again. Except in the case of this particular story, the girl happens to be a penguin.
13 years ago, an African penguin arrived at the Allwetterzoo Münster, reports ABC News. While normally penguins will be aggressive toward their keepers, this one, Peter Vollbracht told Spiegel Online, ignored the 80 other penguins and "would just sit on my boot or arm and ask to be petted." Sandy, as he named her, apparently did not believe in playing hard to get: "When I would get to work in the morning, she would be there waiting for me and call out to me. And when we did our daily penguin march for exercise, she would always jump to the front of the line to be next to me." For ten years the couple had their special relationship, and Sandy became somewhat of a celebrity in Germany.
Then Vollbracht got sick and missed six weeks of work, reports ABC News. But "out of sight, out of mind" apparently applies to primarily monogamous penguins. When Vollbracht returned, Sandy had set her sights on Tom, a younger penguin. Sandy and Tom settled down, had a couple of chicks, and then, sadly, Tom died. The newly available Sandy looked around for a new mate and found... Vollbracht. While her keeper points out that she needs a penguin partner to lead a normal life, it seems that some things are just meant to be.
