Let's give back this Thanksgiving!

Best Friends Pet Care every year has an angel tree set up for local shelters. We ask our clients and the public to donate to our angel tree. The Angel tree program was designed to help out less fortunate rescues over the holiday season ,so that their babies might have a good holiday too!  We ask people to donate toys(new or slightly used), blankets, bedding, food(unopened and not expired) and of course money is always nice too!  Also you may buy a toy from our retail store and we will put your name on it and put it under the tree. This year he rescues that are on the tree are Harlequin Haven Great Dane Rescue and Recycled Doggies. If you would like to know more about these rescues click on their links.

Please drop donations off at

Sunday morning I was watching a movie (something I seldom have time for) and it reminded me of the homeless Dane/dogs that live here at the rescue. How they are just looking for that special family that will love them for who they are, not what a book or movie says they should be. Then I thought about the people that had called in recent months and their comments about the dog they wanted to adopt. How they do not want an older dog because they need to bond with the dog or they only want a puppy or young adult (3 - 6 months) EXCUSE ME!!! Since when is a 3 - 6 month old a young adult?

A few weeks ago, I saw a love that to this day makes me cry, it was when Sneak came out to meet Sonia and Bob. The love in his eyes was tremendous. He knew the moment he saw them that they did not care he was not a purebred Dane, they did not care he was 8 yrs old, they saw a loving boy that needed to be loved back and well he was right. Sneak was at the rescue for 6 years he watched many a dogs come and go, he watched people come and adopt the puppies, leaving a loving adult dog behind. Even after 6 years Sneak was determined his forever home would come for him one day! Sneak is missed at the rescue but his story is one that makes me the happiest when people look beyond the breed and their age and look at what is inside.
