Diamonds are a dogs best friend......

ROCKVILLE, Md. - A Rockville dog ate a diamond worth $20,000. In an instant, the three-plus carat rock vanished down the throat of the dog.

Diamonds may be a girl's best friend, but apparently dogs like them too -- or at least this guy does.
The owners of the Robert Bernard Jewelry Store say their hearts sank when they realized Soli the dog had consumed a pricey doggy treat -- a gem with a big price tag. ABC 7 Talkback:
"Twenty thousand dollars -- that is all I could think about," said Robert Rosin, one of the store's owners.
A diamond dealer brought the big rock to the store to show the owners, and just when he pulled it out, he dropped it.
"Saw Soli go for the diamond -- gobbled it up," recalled Rosin. "Tried to get it -- couldn't get it -- gone!"
They called the vet who advised letting the diamond follow nature's course.
"It was not that pleasant," said George Kaufmann, another owner of Robert Bernard Jewelers. "I followed him; I had to pick up his stuff; I had to go through the things. I can understand what it was like in the old Gold Rush. I felt like I had just hit pay dirt."
After three days of prospecting, the diamond appeared and the dealer got his diamond back. As for Soli, he's getting plenty of traditional doggy snacks to keep him from munching on anymore gems.
"It was a happy ending to say the least," Kaufmann said.
Even though Soli is a rescue dog, his value increased dramatically for three days. But even though he's no longer carrying around a big diamond, he's still priceless to his owners.
