The chick weighed just 205 grams when it was born on February 17th. It's doubled its weight in the first week of it's life. The gender of the chick won't be known for a few more weeks.
This King chick is a second-generation Newport Aquarium penguin. Its parents were both born at the Aquarium four years ago. The King chick will likely spend its time nestled under its penguin parents. As days pass, the chick will begin to slowly venture away from its nest and be more visible in the Kroger Kingdom of Penguins exhibit, like the Gentoo penguin chicks who were born there last month.
There are only 15 accredited institutions that hold King penguins in North America
